Pop princess Natasha Bedingfield, Irish band The Corrs, soul star
Beverley Knight and jazz pianist Jamie Cullum are among the latest
singers who have signed up to perform at one of the Live 8 concerts
next month, organisers confirmed today.
Promoters of the gig at Murrayfield in Edinburgh on Wednesday July 6
also announced a top flight team of creative directors for the event.
Award-winning songwriter Guy Chambers, who has worked with Robbie
Williams and Will Young among others, will be the concert’s musical
director.
Lee Lodge, who was behind Robbie Williams’ shows at Murrayfield and Knebworth, will be creative director.
The production manager will be Chris Vaughan, who works with Travis,
Kylie and the Sugababes, while the stage will be created by MTV set
designer Simon Beresford.
Funnymen Peter Kay and Lenny Henry will host the gig and Travis,
Snow Patrol, Dido, Texas, Annie Lennox, Womad, Sugababes, Ronan Keating
and McFly will also perform.
The show, which is being organised by Live 8 impresarios Midge Ure
and Bob Geldof, will form the climax of a huge anti-poverty protest in
the Scottish capital on the day the G8 summit of world leaders begins
in Gleneagles, Perthshire.
Ure said: “Getting this team on board is fantastic. They are
absolute professionals, with worldwide reputations of the highest
quality – they will deliver the most amazing event at Murrayfield.”
