Am Donnerstag (24.02.2005) hat der Manager der Corrs, John Hughes, bei den diesjährigen Meteor Awards den Industry Award gewonnen. Mit diesem Preis wurde er für seinen Beitrag zur irischen Musikindustrie geehrt.

An dieser Stelle sei auch erwähnt, dass er über die Jahre neben dem
Corrs-Management auch an einem eigenen Album gearbeitet hat. Das Album
trägt den Titel "Wild Ocean" und kann über Amazon bestellt werden.

Meteor and MCD are delighted to announce that John Hughes,
musician and Manager of The Corrs will be presented with the Meteor
Industry Award at the 2005 Meteor Ireland Music Awards, hosted by Ed
Byrne in The Point on Thursday, 24th February.

John classes himself as a musician first and a manager second and he
obtained his music skills back in the early 1980`s with the Dublin band
"Ned Spoon". It wasn`t long before John and his brother Willie had
formed their own duo band called "Minor Detail" who performed
electronic pop music that captured the imagination of A&R scouts at
Polygram`s New York headquarters. "Minor Detail`s" debut album went
into the top 75 in the United States but unfortunately the project got
bogged down in the familiar mire of record company politics and the
dejected brothers came home to Ireland. This was not the first time
they had suffered rejection but nether the less it was still painful.

But Hughes didn’t give up that easily and formed another band called
"The Hughes Version" and among the musicians he recruited was Jim Corr.
Around this time he was being asked to put a band together to star in
the movie The Commitments and Jim told him about his sisters Andrea,
Caroline and Sharon and asked if they could audition. The rest of this
story is now history.

John is classed as one of the Corrs biggest fans and is also one of
their most valued critics. He is often publicly seen with the band and
is classed by some people as the fifth member of the group.

In between working with the Corrs John Hughes writes his own music.
Recently, John released `Wild Ocean` confirming his talent as a
composer in his own right. Five years in the making, his album is a
wonderful fusion of traditional and contemporary music that has an
international appeal. Having enlisted the talents of such diverse acts
as Finbar Furey, The Corrs, the Irish Film Orchestra and The
Chieftains, Hughes has recruited old school as well more modern
musicians to bridge the gap between past and present. `Wild Ocean` is a
great achievement – Hughes has created a distinctive sound that brings
traditional Irish music to a much wider audience.
